Back in the 90s we started to hear the term “disrupt” or “disruptor” misused to describe self-centered acts or businesses that simply ignored laws or ethics. These bizes were sold to the public as being daring and cool—“giving it to the Man” somehow. Really, it was just capitalistic libertarianism of the worst kind (see, e.g., Amazon).

This, imo, was the start of the shitshow.
